Indoor flooring

Floors have by far the biggest influence on how the final result of a finishing and renovation work will look like. Generally the choice falls on stoneware floors, being porcelain stoneware a very dense and resistant material. Indeed, the process to obtain porcelain stoneware tiles entails sintering ceramic clays, feldspars, kaolin and sand. These row materials are at first ground, than finely atomized until the obtained powder reaches a homogeneous granulometry, adequate for pressing. That is why next to an aesthetic effect of a great impact, a porcelain stoneware floor also ensures quality and durability.

The floor covering suitable to match any furniture style

Among the several options for floors covering and next to porcelain stoneware, there are terracotta floors, floors in slate, resin, PVC and marble. These materials are also available in their outdoor flooring versions. PVC is a thermoplastic material, made of a mainly naturally-sourced composition. Due to its versatility and being a thermal insulator, PVC is one of the most appropriate materials to cover a surface. PVC flooring comes in a range of varieties: self-adhesive, snap-fit, self-laying, glue-down, floating. Terracotta is mostly used for kitchen tiling, but when installed in outdoor areas (for instance in a garden) it creates contrast with the vegetation enhancing the green of the flowerbed. Ceramic materials are a guarantee for brightness. That is because its typical veining confers several nuances to the light of the environment, making it warmer when the marble is closer to cream, red or pink hues, or cooler, when the surface is crafted with pale blue, white or even dark-colored blocks. That is why a marble floor best suits a more classic furniture style.

Stoneware flooring: a unique material for a myriads of effects

Choosing stoneware flooring allows to reproduce a large array of effects perfectly imitating several types of materials. Hence, choosing porcelain stoneware with wood effect allows to get the typical effect of parquet, replicating veining and coloring. The same happens with a different material, porcelain stoneware with stone effect, setting a rustic tone and an antique feel to a specific space. There also exist stoneware floors with concrete effect; as it makes surfaces opaque and soft to the touch, porcelain stoneware flooring with encaustic effect is a perfect fit for typical modern furniture style. Being porcelain stoneware a highly adaptable and resistant material, it is also appropriate for outdoor flooring. Also in this case the possibilities are countless and it’s tremendously simple to find the right solution for any type of outdoor space to be floored.

How to maintain a porcelain stoneware floor for an effect that stands the test of time

Porcelain stoneware is a ceramic material and as such it is highly appreciated for its performance, included easy maintenance and cleaning. Anyhow, it is necessary to take some precautions in order to protect it from potential damages and to keep its qualities and properties unaltered as it ages. There are two cleaning phases which are compulsory for the good maintenance of a stoneware floor: the ordinary daily cleaning – consisting in nothing else than simply cleaning off the common dirt with a detergent – and the cleaning done after the tiles laying to remove any glue and grout residues. The after-installation cleaning is compulsory to be done at the end of the work for all kinds of porcelain stoneware and ceramics. For what ordinary cleaning is concerned, it implies diluting detergents and degreasing solutions in hot water. The usage of products such as wax and oily soaps is absolutely discouraged as they might cause damage to the surface.
