Wooden decorative object
When Fado is sung, the world hears passions, saudade, and the heartbreaks in life. Fado is a music genre that can be traced to the 1820s in Lisbon, Portugal, but probably has much earlier origins. That is the soul of the Portuguese people, transcribed onto the Portuguese guitar by way of a painting that expresses Portuguese reality. Painted by José Vital Branco Malhoa, known simply as José Malhoa in 1910 this works expresses the feelings from the taverns to the songs that tell stories in melancholic verses known as Fado and that inspired this guitar.
Structure in hand-painted wood finished with high gloss varnish featuring hand carved floral ornaments on its headstock.
