BOTTONE By Mutina
Indoor/outdoor porcelain stoneware wall/floor tiles
2024
The shape of Bottone is obtained by means of circular perimeter cuts which, in the juxtaposition of two pieces with a 4 mm joint, become perfect circles reminiscent of buttons. In the juxtaposition of the individual modules, a play of shapes within shapes is obtained, in which voids and solids dialogue with each other in an alternation of complementary perceptions.
Bottone is available in a palette of five colours: Sabbia (sand), Grigio (gray), Rosso (red), Blu (blue), and Verde (green). These are not solid colours but hues obtained from a delicate mix of coloured earth, which, working in synergy with the ceramic texture, enhances its extremely material and natural appearance.
Osso & Bottone is the first Mutina collection specifically designed for outdoor spaces, but it also works perfectly for interiors. Designed by Ronan Bouroullec, it represents an important ceramic innovation in terms of use and versatility.
The name derives from the shapes evoked by the slightly contoured configuration of the pieces that make up the collection. The designer intervened on the individual ceramic elements with a symbolic gesture, 'cutting' the traditional rectangle to create unique forms. These shapes accommodate the grout in their 'missing parts' and allow for the creation of colorful geometries that, thanks to the precious play of lights and shadows, make the composition dynamic. The result is a sort of optical vibration capable of confusing the original configurations and opening a dialogue between the collection and the natural world it overlooks.
Each measuring 10 mm thick, the modules of Osso & Bottone are made of unglazed porcelain stoneware, with colored mass throughout, available in a palette of five colors: Sand, Gray, Red, Blue, and Green.
These are not solid colors, but hues obtained from a delicate mix of colored clays, which, working in synergy with the ceramic texture, enhance its extremely material and natural appearance. Thanks to homogeneous processing throughout the thickness, the resulting surface has excellent technical characteristics and durability.
