OLTRE L'APPARENZA | Vase
At first glance, these unpublished works by the Italian ceramic artist stand like slender clay slabs made with the paper clay technique. This technique makes the two-dimensional surface suggestive conferring depth and tactility.
The varying orientation of the corrugated cardboard embedded in the clay, the absence of textures in other cases, and, in some works, the inserts of gold leaf, characterize these apparently two-dimensional works.
Only by turning the object around, the third dimension, that transforms the slabs into a functional sculptural object, is revealed. Cylinders applied on the back of the slabs not only allow them to support themselves but take on the role of vase.
