Manufacture year
1953

Designed in late 1953, the DU30 is without doubt Gastone Rinaldi's most famous design.‎ In fact, in 1954 it was the recipient of the Compasso d’Oro award, known as the Compasso d’Oro-Rinascente at the time, in what was the first year the prize was awarded.‎ The jury that year included, among others, Gio Ponti, Marco Zanuso and Alberto Rosselli.‎
The DU30 was immediately patented and appeared on the cover of the first edition of Stile Industria magazine in June 1954.‎ The unitary nature of the seat and backrest results in a central cutting and stitching effect that brings to mind the contemporary works of Lucio Fontana.‎
Du 30 chair has a shaped single shell in steel mesh with moulded polyurethane foam padding.‎ Legs in bent welded iron tubing with a textured, wrinkled black finish (NERO RAL 9005).‎ Upholstery in Pelle Frau® leather.‎ Fitted with a lower 'backbone', the shell is attached directly to each pair of legs with screws.‎
