Round and low MDF coffee table with recycled polystyrene top

Bottone is a coffee table with a wooden frame, high-gloss varnish and a recycled polystyrene top from the ‘glass’ series by Plastiz®, it's part of Rammendi collection.‎

Rammendi (t/n mending)  – is a line of shelves, bedside tables, consoles, and seats pieced together from cutoffs and disassembled parts of Franca e Allegra, our first line of tables, featuring 100% recycled and recyclable plastic inserts.‎ A new collection, mindful of sustainability, influenced by a craft our young grandmas - the same that inspired all the Franca e Allegra furnishings - were particularly good at, cutting and sewing, in every sense.‎ Patching, mending, telling stories, giving new meaning to things.‎ To not throw anything away, not even secrets.‎ Not even the planet.‎

Coming up with Rammendi was a cut-and- sew job, like what our “young grandmas” used to do, the ones who inspired every piece of the Franca e Allegra line.‎ The composition of the tables and side tables have been taken apart and reassembled to form new pieces of complementing furniture (shelves, bedside tables, consoles, benches, and seats) with the addition of 100% recycled and recyclable sustainable and hard-waring tops.‎ Never throw anything away: stained tablecloths, ripped clothes, and above all secrets.‎ Patching, mending, telling stories, giving meaning to things.‎ A new meaning, enriched.‎ This is the circular economy we grew up with, before knowing what it was.‎ A kind of Japanese kintsugi, but without gold, considering that young grandmas like Franca e Allegra have never liked showing off.‎ And other people’s gossip about them either.‎

Every year, over 400 million tonnes of plastic waste end up polluting the soil and the ocean.‎ But what if instead they were reused to create something beautiful, and useful? That’s what Plastiz® does, making panels like those used on the tops of the Franca and Allegra – Rammendi design pieces.‎ A recycling process that can be seen in the material itself, which does not conceal the fragments of plastic, but rather shows them off, with a certain pride.‎ The pride of someone who knows that good design, if it is also good for the planet, is good twice over.‎ The Rammendi collection’s furnishings are made using MDF wood bases that are machine- cut and then hand-finished to achieve a natural curvature, enhanced by a high-gloss varnish.‎ A recycled polystyrene top from the ‘Glass’ series by Plastiz® is then added to this base.‎ A sustainable choice that creates a vibrant colour combination of unexpected contrasts and sophisticated assonances.‎ The final effect is a playful aesthetic, which disguises the absolute sturdiness of the construction and the resistance of the glassy consistency of the top, which, unlike glass, is light and unbreakable.‎
