LES COULEURS TRADITIONNELLES
Decorative painting finish
For centuries, wall colors were limited exclusively to the pigments that could be found locally, in surrounding nature.
These colors have been selected from color fans or samples – the earliest dating back as far as 1807 – of ancient paint formulas or research conducted by Dr Bristow.
Les Couleurs Traditionnelles Collection - 64 tints
This range is the result of Patrick Baty’s research who is a founding member of the traditional paint forum with the Georgian Group. This private British organisation is an equivalent of the French Bâtiments de France and counts the Royal Family as well as the owners of Georgian housing estates, dated between the late 17th and late 19th century, among its members.
The 64 colors presented here all come from genuine samples collected on walls which were often covered with a think white paste called gesso or casein paint. Only a few tones were oil-based paints and they were used on woodwork. In those days, pigments came essentially from minerals which explains why some colors could not be found.
