TABULA RARITÀ | Table
Rectangular elm fossil wood table
Solid Wood, Elm
Tabula is an idea from Co. in. ra srl, a benchmark company on the international wood scene, for showcasing the rarest, most unusual and prized pieces in its vast selection, obtained from eco-sustainable forestry management and private parks in Europe or, as in this case, from the most remote depths of the past.
The fossil wood comes from centuries-old and millennial trunks buried in the riverbed under a layer of sand and gravel, keeping intact the grain and the original aesthetic characteristics.
Elm fossil wood reaches the age of 600-700 years old before crumbling and disintegrating and is therefore particularly rare and precious, also compared to fossil wood which can reach even greater ages, such as oak. Made as a one-off, like all Tabula creations, this rectangular table is taken from two boards of elm fossil wood from the bed of the Sava River, in the Balkans, joined by a craft technique. The process of fossilisation of the wood has increased its hardness and given it a grey-green colour, with pearly shades which create a rare emotion, in an item of furniture which goes beyond time.
