Wall tiles

Wall coverings come in a multitude of typologies; stoneware porcelain for the indoor, with stone effect, in white-body ceramic, with texture, with eco-friendly enamel. Each environment of the house has its adequate covering typology, to be combined with the set furnishing style. For covering the bathroom walls, ceramic tiles in pastel-tones allow to play with materials, breaking with the plain paint effect. Lately, for the kitchen and living room walls it has become common to dare with wall coverings in porcelain stoneware with stone effect. It is not necessary to cover a large surface. Often enriching just some portions of an environment - so that the tiles are used as a real “furnishing element” - is enough. Wall covering can also be used to create closets. The walls, indeed, can be used to set up beautiful storage solutions. Nonetheless, wall coverings are elements that not only contribute to modify the environment look, but also play their function in preserving the walls status. In this sense the material chosen for covering the walls is decisive. As a matter of facts, some materials are more adequate to protect the walls from humidity and water infiltration due to their waterproof properties and thermal insulating capacities; others are very efficient in strengthening the walls sound absorbance. Choosing the coverings for the surfaces of a house is thus both a simple and complex task at the same time.

Ceramic, porcelain stoneware and concrete wall tiles

Resistant to chemical, biological and mechanical attacks, ceramic is traditionally used for the production of tiles with a great decorative character. Depending on the resistance of the material, different products can be distinguished, including porcelain stoneware. Porcelain stoneware coverings are among the most popular in interior design as they manage to combine several features such as high resistance to chemicals and impact, ease of cleaning, ideal aesthetic performance, resistance to humidity and a wide variety of effects, colors and finishes. Stoneware wall tiles are able to faithfully reproduce any type of material - tiles with marble effect, wood effect or stone effect, just to name a few - while retaining their typical features and strengths. The use of concrete as an exposed finishing material has the intention of not hiding the structural materials and instead state their aesthetic value. Concrete offers workability and the possibility to create free shapes within a space, often conferring a modern and technological look. Resins, on the other hand, are cement-based materials that are leveled and smoothed after casting. They are the material par excellence when the aim is to obtain continuous and homogeneous surfaces. Resin coatings are also widely used, previously only common in the industrial field to meet functional requirements; now they are easy to find also in residential and tertiary sectors. This material has good performances, is waterproof, easy to clean and resistant.

More than stoneware: wood, stone and bricks to cover the walls

Covering materials for indoor spaces influence with no doubt the performances, functions and atmosphere. The choice can interest largely diverse materials, be them natural, traditional or modern. One among all is certainly wood. The result of the different processes wood undergoes is the many interesting products, starting from a material excellent for interiors thanks to properties such as naturalness, density, aesthetic performance and especially hardness. It can be used for the production of flat panels or strips, great as for flooring as for covering vertical surfaces. Wood coverings are also extremely versatile. This is due to the fact that by its nature wood is available in different colors, essences and textures. Suitable for the indoor as well as for the outdoor, natural stone tiles recall an ancient dimension of architecture. As a matter of fact, stone was one of the first building systems used by men, hence it brings back to the mind the most ancestral forms of living, of which we often save the memory in the way we live the house spaces. Apt to be installed in large slabs as well as in tinier elements, natural stone tiles allow to shape flooring and walls of astonishing performances, characterized by a deep richness and variety of the drawings or perhaps, on the contrary, by a neutral and minimalist beauty. Artificial stone coverings, on the other hand, consist of flat or angular elements created through the use of special molds obtained from pieces of natural stone, each one different from the other in shape and size. Thanks to the type of compounds used to obtain it, such as quartz sands, white cements, natural colored earths, artificial stone is an environmentally friendly, non-polluting, long-lasting material. Another traditional building material is brick, which can be used to create interesting claddings with a tectonic flavor, both indoors and outdoors. The use of brick cladding generates surfaces with a strong masonry image, which enhance the qualities of the warp and weft and the sense of heaviness of the masonry mass. Bricks can be used in different versions and surface finishes, depending on whether you want to privilege the homogeneity of the wall mass or vice versa the alternation of details and chromatic nuances.
