Rols is a Spanish brand that specializes in designing and manufacturing sustainable bespoke carpets and rugs from recycled materials and wool. With over 100 years of history, the company runs the entire production chain in-house. The factory is located in Crevillent, a small town in the province of Alicante in south-eastern Spain, where carpet weaving has its cultural home within a region acclaimed for its rich heritage in textile production. Tradition meets innovation in this company, whose values are based on technique, sustainability, and "Made in Spain".
Rols Carpets: 100% manufactured in Spain
Rols controls the entire manufacturing process with the aim of continuing to create local jobs and to maintain the carpet tradition of Crevillent. Therefore, the whole process, from designing the carpet itself, then the dyeing, winding, weaving and finishing stages, through to the final delivery to the end customer, passes through the hands of craftsmen from Crevillent. Many of them are the children of former company employees who have followed in their parents’ footsteps and continued in this trade.
Focus on sustainability
All production is centralised in Spain. As well as this, Rols specialises in designing and manufacturing carpets from sustainable raw materials, mainly wool, jute and recycled plastic materials. The company’s commitment to sustainability has resulted in collections of rugs and carpets, which are divided into four main lines: Rugs made from recycled PET plastic bottles: a line of indoor and outdoor rugs with a handmade look, similar to jute or sisal, but with greater advantages in terms of maintenance and durability. Each rug in Rols’ latest collection, Terra, is manufactured using 300 to 400 recycled plastic bottles for each square metre. In figures, this means that a single customer who buys a 200x300 cm. rug is giving new life to up to 2,400 plastic bottles. Rugs made from nylon fishing nets: indoor rugs with a look and feel that is reminiscent of natural fibres such as silk or Tencel, but whose performance is far superior, in terms of both ease of cleaning and use. In this process, abandoned nylon fishing nets collected from the ocean are recycled and transformed through creative reuse, giving them a second life. Wool rugs: Rols has always used wool as its main raw material, and to this day it continues to be its hallmark. To create these rugs, the best wool from Spain and New Zealand is selected, and materials are fully traceable guaranteeing animal welfare. Wool is a naturally sustainable fibre that is also totally renewable. Personalised carpets and rugs for project contracts: in addition to the models in the collection, Rols has a full custom programme which offers the option of developing totally personalised carpets and rugs. These are ideal for project contracts for hotels, chain stores or boats, among others, where the only limit is imagination. These collections, like all the others, are 100% locally manufactured, drastically reducing the carbon footprint associated with transport and energy. Looms are powered by energy generated on-site by photovoltaic panels to ensure that production processes require minimal use of fossil fuels.
Fourth generation family business
Rols is a long-standing fourth generation family firm that began in 1917, when the precursor of the company, Francisco Gómez, bought a hand loom to weave natural sisal and esparto grass fibres. Nowadays, his great-grandchildren have joined this great legacy and are in charge of the management and strategy of the company, adapting to the new times, but never forgetting the essence of the brand. As a result, Rols is a sustainable family carpet factory whose quality craftsmanship never goes out of fashion.
