Scarabeo was founded by Giovanni Calisti with other partners in 1974. In just a few years, the Calisti family became the sole proprietors of the company. The company began producing ceramic bathroom accessories and became the European leader in this sector. The company came into contact with the most important producers of bathroom fittings in the world. Meanwhile, in Italy, Scarabeo began to work with high calibre companies such as: Ideal Standard, Cesame, Dolomite and Pozzi Ginori, acquiring important technological and productive know how, experimenting alternative production materials, which have allowed the company to become more competitive in the market. The distribution network has grown considerably and currently Scarabeo products are sold in more than 40 countries across the world. Exports still represent two thirds of the company’s business thanks to its systematic approach to business in Europe, America, the Middle East, the Far East, Africa and Australia.
At the end of the 1990s, after a difficult period caused by a growing tendency to outsource production and the introduction of non-traditional materials for bathroom accessories, Scarabeo was able to respond immediately to the new dynamics of innovation in the sector. In 1998, Giovanni Calisti presented a new line dedicated to old-fashioned washbasins, reinterpreting them with more modern innovative design. So Scarabeo decided to make washbasins the main focal point of the bathroom. Today the goal is even more ambitious: to make a name for the company in the bathroom fittings sector, presenting complete solutions for bathroom suites, taking full advantage of its market position and the customer confidence built up on the basis of its washbasins. In 2005 Scarabeo started working in the field of bathroom suites and since then the company has introduced one or two complete lines of bathroom fittings every year. Scarabeo, already supplier of basins and sanitary fittings for the bathrooms of prestigious estates like “The Palm” and “The Loft” in Dubai and the “Crown Casino Hotel” in Melbourne, has won the Design Plus Award 2013. This prestigious award is conferred by the German Council for Design and the German Chamber of Commerce.
