Slide was founded in Buccinasco (Milan) in 2002 by Giò Colonna Romano, a businessman and creative with thirty years of experience in the plastic resin sector. Since 2015, his son Marco Colonna Romano has been leading the company making it a top leader in outdoor furniture. To this end, Romano surrounds himself with a team of young creatives and collaborates with internationally renowned designers like Alessandro Mendini, Paola Navone, Stefano Giovannoni, Fabio Novembre, Marcel Wanders, Karim Rashid and Marc Sadler. In addition to its historic production of plastic resins, the company has introduced new materials like soft and rigid polyurethane and waterproof fabrics. The brand's also expanded to include lighting, developing technical fixtures for large areas. Slide is characterised by its ability to combine industrial processes and crafts, a mix that allows the company to meet user needs, creating unique pieces characterised by distinctive nuances whose every imperfection enhances the industrial process. While Slide maintains production in Buccinasco, its extensive sales network allows its products to reach more than 130 countries worldwide.

Slide indoor and outdoor lamps and furniture

Alessandro Mendini is one of the masters of design who have collaborated with Slide. He designed Here and There, two table lamps with abstract and geometric forms created first as a limited edition and then adapted for mass production, and Glacè, a sizeable luminous seat with an abstract and irregular shape recalling the tips of a star, designed with an eye to the world of contract and events. Denis Santachiara contributed to the Slide vision with the Kaleido project, a modular suspension lamp. Giulio Cappellini's Cubic Yo is a linear and irregular vase composed of parallelepipeds that create a play of elegant essential lines that give the object great visual impact. Marc Sadler designed eleven pieces of furniture for Slide, including America, an indoor and outdoor armchair inspired by the 1950s stars and stripes; Kami armchairs and sofas inspired by traditional origami, with cuts and folds different from those used in modern technology; the Isetta chair, a tribute to the famous ISO microcar produced in the 1950s. One of Slide's most prolific contemporary partnerships is with Karim Rashid, author, among others, of the Blos Collection, an indoor and outdoor seating programme suitable for domestic and contract use, characterised by its round, almost cartoonish shape. The collection includes the Blos armchair and the Blossy sofa, both rockers. Fabio Novembre designed the Spin hanging lamp (also available in a wall version). This twisted parallelepiped has a square base; its modularity can create long and sinuous compositions that vary with their aggregations. Stefano Giovannoni designed the red or white Love table lamp with its characteristic heart shape. Among the many designers who have created polyethene furniture for Slide is Paola Navone, author of the Low Lita collection of chairs and tables distinguished by the contrast between its solid legs and the thin and essential design of its bodies and tops.

Slide plastic furniture: design and sustainability

Slide's commitment to environmental sustainability materialises in the company's choice to use linear low-density polyethene, processed according to a zero-harm emissions process. The mono-material polymer made of a single type of plastic guarantees that all the company's products are 100% recyclable. In addition, colours such as Jet Black, Elephant Grey, Chocolate Brown and Mahogany Leather are made from recycled material. As a tribute to this commitment, in 2020 Slide produced its first sustainability report. This document told the company's story, highlighting its environmental, social and governance activities. The brand aligns with the 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) regarding Gender Equality; Professional Dignity and Economic Growth; Enterprise, Innovation and Infrastructure; Sustainable Cities and Communities; Responsible Consumption and Production; Combating Climate Change.
