Warli is an Italian brand specializing in handmade rugs. Founded in 1992 from an idea of designer Paolo Zani, it initially draws on the experience and craftsmanship of artisans from a cooperative in northern India. Warli uses only the highest quality yarns, and offers a catalog in which ethnic and contemporary suggestions, popular and sophisticated patterns, and simple and sophisticated workmanship are combined, always respecting the traditions of the places of production. Initially distributed by Moroso in its home catalog, it later developed toward the contract sector, offering exclusive custom-made carpets, such as for Max Mara Group stores located around the world. Today the brand has expanded its catalog, offering outdoor rugs, accessories such as the Strato basket set or the Site Soft Moss outdoor cushions, and the Twilight collection of indoor and outdoor lamps.
Warli: handmade and custom-made indoor rugs
The Warli catalog devotes ample space to indoor rugs, offering 4 different handmade designs. The Hand-knotted collection includes hand-knotted rugs using Tibetan or Persian techniques. Arabesque is a wool and viscose rug that combines traditional Persian motifs with contemporary design. It is available in light gray, dark gray and taupe. Interesting is the mix of materials used in the Barbès rug, made of bamboo silk, derived from bamboo cellulose, and recycled sari silk. The Albers rug sports a rationalist design in homage to Bauhaus masters Josef and Anni Albers, and is made of undyed linen using the Indo-Tibetan knotting technique. Less elaborate than the knotted ones, the rugs in the Hand-tufted collection lend themselves perfectly to contemporary mood designs, such as Finisterre, a collection of decorative rugs formed by several concentric circles, juxtaposed or overlapping, declined in 5 versions. Or the Modulor rug, characterized by a geometric pattern articulated in two thicknesses, in a complex dialogue between empty and full spaces. The Dhurries collection gathers carpets worked on a loom with a technique similar to that of Kilim, which returns a knotless fabric, formed by the interweaving of warp and weft. The result is simple patterns, enriched by the superimposition of additional workings introduced by the Warli team. The Nomad rug features a solid-color surface, broken up by bands in contrasting colors on the edges, decorated with bangs. More complex is the geometry of the Barrio rug, in wool and viscose, characterized by the combination of rectangles of different sizes. Closing the series of indoor rugs is the Handloom collection, which recalls loom workmanship that is almost impossible to reproduce with industrial machines. The Dots rug is made with twisted wool elements and dyed with a special technique that returns a finely stippled surface. Contract carpets are collected in the Equipment collection, which offers exclusive custom carpets and carpet tiles made on Handloom looms, in sizes up to 5 X 25 m. The Sand continuous nylon and viscose carpet-flooring offers a finely dotted surface reminiscent of sand, while Dune sports a surface characterized by three-dimensional effects.
