25/06/2020 - As part of its 2020 collection launches, Stellar Works unveils its first collaboration with design studio Nendo on three distinctive collections: Blend, Frame and Kite. The three collections harness Nendo’s design-expertise and meticulous process together with Stellar Works’ unrivaled ability in craftsmanship to produce a characterful yet functional collection of furniture and accessories.

On the collaboration, Nendo says: “I feel that one of the strongest characteristics of Stellar Works is the design and functionality of their pieces, which mean that they can be used in both home and hospitality/contract environments. Therefore, we started our design thinking by taking a similar approach to these collections for the brand.”

Blend is a three-legged bar stool combines a black metal frame with solid walnut and oak wood. An upholstered seat is also available in leather and a selection of fabrics. The main design feature of Blend is the formation of the legs, with one ‘melting-away’ in the middle. This slight structural change transforms the direction of force through the stool and how it is applied. The stool also features a crossbar footrest. Five variations of Blend are available, including short stools, a version where the legs form part of the backrest. Blend

Kite is a compact armchair designed with commercial and hospitality spaces in mind and in particular small spaces. There are numerous armchairs and sofas for lobbies and lounges, but well executed designs for narrow spaces such as corridors, elevator lobbies, and entrances are in short supply. Attempts to make an armchair small normally leads one to think of gradual elimination of the backrest to create a bench-like furniture piece. But casting the backrest as the star to which the seat is adjoined yields a design less about sitting and more about leaning against a grand backrest. Kite takes up minimal space while offering the chair’s user a bit of calm and security. The backrest and seat are independent parts, with shallow and deep seats and lower and taller backs available for use in combination, according to the size of the space and degree of privacy desired. Frame is a simple L-shaped steel frame system that has been designed for a multitude of purposes. It can be hung on a wall as a towel rail, holding a mirror at two points and can be transformed into a shelf. It can be customized with small circular mirrors or longer elliptical mirrors to use in combination with shelves and towel bars. There are also floor mirrors which allow frame to be used as a free-standing mirror with garment racks. Frame
