Sika-Design relaunches 'Rana chair' by Nanna Ditzel

Presented at IMM Cologne 2013

13/12/2012 - Scandinavia's oldest supplier of wicker furniture Sika-Design relaunches Nanna Ditzel ´s 3-legged wicker chair “ Rana ” from 1951. In a time with high demand on sustainable design furniture the wicker chair fits perfectly. The chair has just been honoured with the label Interior Innovation Award – Selection 2013 .

The Danish furniture designers Nanna and Jorgen Ditzel began in 1950 to work with wicker in cooperation with the renowned company R. Wengler. Many international furniture designers were at that time trying to connect the seat and back in one form in different materials. Ditzel's experimental approach to materials, and based on the body, resulted in the Three-legged chair.

The wicker chair was initiating the rediscovery of wicker's many properties, and Ditzels won prices at the Cabinetmakers Guild Exhibition and the Milan Triennale in 1951. This was the beginning of a renewed status for wicker furniture in interior design. The Rana chair will be presented on the fair IMM Cologne 2013.
