Expormim: hispanic design featured at IMM Cologne
16/01/2014 - Imm Cologne continues at full pace and Expormim is the protagonist of this great show. At IMM Cologne Expormim presents its collection:

Tina designed by Benedetta Tagliabue
Tina, a new collection that makes a clear commitment to natural materials and craftsmanship of wicker. Benedetta Tagliabue, a prestigious Italian architect based in Barcelona, has signed the most emotional design of Expormim. A collection that perfectly reflects the natural elegance of well done things and the Mediterranean lifestyle.

Benedetta Tagliabue, principal of the Miralles Tagliabue EMBT studio, which was founded with Enric Miralles in 1994, has designed this seat with a clear intention: to recover the craft tradition of the wicker in order to create a sleek and sinuous design, through the best craftsmen. Tina collection is the second product designed by EMBT studio, and reflects one of its most recognized values: a tribute to the beauty through simplicity and craftsmanship.

The Italian designer says about her design: “Wickerwork is a marvelous form of art, and an artisanal technique which is the same the world over. One can even say that wickerwork represents the first universal language of humankind: the language of hands. That is why we research about wicker and the weaving of natural materials in our design studio. The Tina armchair is the result of our collaboration with the industry. With a design featuring both innovation and tradition, it is built with the painstaking care and attention to detail characteristic of artisanal methods coupled with the precision and quality that comes with technology. The Tina armchair is surprisingly lightweight and sinuous due to the features and comfort of its natural braiding”.

Nautica desuigned by MUT Design
Nautica is a hanging chair that pays homage to one of the first pieces created by Expormim in the 70s. The swing, designed by Mut Design, is intended to surprise and rethink the use of rattan, just as the first version did. No matter if it hangs from a tree branch, or from a floor-standing structure, Nautica stands out thanks to the subtle play of shadows result of its movement that reminds the reflection of the sunlight falling on the ocean waves. Despite its visual lightness, the piece is notable for its sturdiness and resistance. It is also suitable for any sort of space, always inviting to enjoy its sway.

On the words of its creators: “Nautica is the result of attention to detail, the desire for provocation and the respect for the tradition crafting rattan as unique and main material in its design”.

Käbu designed by Javier Pastor
Käbu (curve in Japanese). With this name, Javier Pastor, teacher at UPV and industrial designer, emphasizes the conceptual design process of the new outdoor collection of the Valencian company. “The light structure is dressed with a technical fabric that becomes skin and wrap. The curvature generated as a result of the fabric tension on the structure highlights the desire for a lightweight, upholstered frame. An upholstery that avoids excessive prominence”.

The lightness is pursued through two versions, Batyline Senso® and 3D Mesh finish (this last one is a highly resistant and durable technical fabric formulated exclusively for Expormim. The main contribution of the 3D Mesh is its great ventilation capacity. Two colors can be chosen to dress the structure: Brown-Taupe and Black-Black). To develop the collection, Javier Pastor has aimed for two challenges: to convey a sensual and essential memory, the enjoyment of outdoor life characterized by the sun, the breeze, and the water, and a perfect adaptability to different contemporary architectural environments. For the designer, and without any doubt, memory is a great registry not to be renounced.
