13/05/2024 - The iconic conical washbasin designed by Philippe Starck for Duravit is celebrating its 30th birthday!
Born in 1994, Starck Barrel immediately stood out for its curious and straightforward shape - a single object with multiple functions - and became a bestseller for Duravit. To celebrate this milestone, Duravit is paying homage to its classic with a restyling. The new interpretation of Starck Barrel retains its iconic essence. However, it is enriched with new features, including new colours for the base and handles, matching washbasins and c-bonded technology, which creates an almost seamless connection between the base and the washbasin.
As Philippe Starck points out, the strength of the washbasin lies in its conceptual simplicity. "The Starck Barrel collection is essential. It refers to the origins of water in our homes: it flows vertically from the pipes to be collected in a simple bucket." This formal honesty and a forward-looking perspective ensure the washbasin's longevity. The Starck Barrel is not a product of fleeting trends but an archetypal and functional idea that transcends time.
For its 30th anniversary, the Barrel washbasin has a new look, enriched with a C-bonded washbasin, obtained thanks to an innovative technological process that joins the washbasin and the pedestal almost invisibly.
The sink is available in a wide range of finishes, from classic glossy to satin white and even two dark versions: matt and shiny black. This wide range of colours allows users to match the Duravit washbasin to the ambience of the bathroom. The ceramics are further enhanced with HygieneGlaze® Plus, which combines the highest level of hygiene with exceptional ease of cleaning.
Each washbasin is a unique masterpiece, meticulously handcrafted to perfection. The curved multilayer forms the base of the bowl, with its diameter tapering towards the bottom. The new glossy and soft satin finishes offer a myriad of matching possibilities, adding to its uniqueness.
The handles are available in five finishes: chrome and diamond black, brushed bronze, brushed steel and polished gold. The optional internal LED lighting completes the upgrade, switching on and off as the doors open and close.
