ALPI wood in a new store: Luddites Books & Wine
30/06/2020 - ALPI wood enhances the interior design of the new Luddites Books & Wine, a store designed by the Belgian architecture firm Dries Otten inside a historic building in the center of Antwerp.

Inspired by the Luddite movement against the spread of new technologies, the elegant space is a refuge for people who want to escape from the digital world. It offers a fine selection of books, along with the possibility to enjoy a good glass of wine.

The architects have selected the ALPI veneer Sottsass Red to clad the vertical surfaces of the impressive bar counter inside the store, adding refinement and character to the whole facility.

The wood designed by Ettore Sottsass for ALPI, in the red version, stands out for its accentuation of the grain and bright coloring, in keeping with the unusual juxtapositions that were part of the designer’s vivid language. A sophisticated surface, perfectly in line with the design approach of Dries Otten, skillfully combining the concept of Luddism and master craftsmanship, with overtones of Art Deco.
